How to add Friends when list is empty

I read the FAQ topic which states to select them from the list. My list is blank. My girlfriend and I both have one.

If your friend has a Striiv, on the app go to Find Friends and it lets you type in your friend's email address.

So I some how was able to add a friend but did not get gems for the add. Plus I cant go to her land to see how she has it set up. How do we add friends when it keeps saying coming soon. everything I click on says coming soon.
